More than 1,000 years
of history and fable.

For over a thousand years now, the castle of the Counts of Hardenberg has been towering high above the land. Now in ruins, it has provided the fairytale setting for stories such as the legend of the heraldic animal of the Hardenberg family. This story tells how, in the middle of the 13th Century, a wild boar saved the castle from an imminent enemy raid. He grunted so loudly, that he woke up the castle’s residents. Since then, the boar’s head adorns the family crest.

 

The place to tie the knot
Is there a more romantic place for a wedding than the Hardenberg castle ruins? Ever since 2001, bridal couples have pledged vows in the restored castle vaults. Church weddings are also possible; either in the registrar’s office or outdoors. We can organise your celebrations. Buffet at the castle or a party at the hotel: everything is perfectly planned. There is hardly a better way to begin a life together.
